This month, the Weld County 150th Anniversary celebration culminates with Weld County Day on Monday, November 21, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the new county administration building located at 1150 O St. in Greeley.
The public is invited to join the Weld County Commissioners, Congressman Cory Gardner and Senator Mark Udall for tours, refreshments and a special presentation recognizing Weld County’s original 29 communities.
To memorialize the special day, post offices throughout Weld County will use a commemorative Weld County 150th Anniversary postmark cancellation stamp on all mail processed in the county on November 21st. Attendees of the Weld County Day event will have the opportunity to self-address a commemorative 150th Anniversary post card which will receive the historic cancellation from the post office. Anyone who cannot attend the open house can self-address an envelope and mail it from any Weld County post office on 21st to receive the postmark cancellation.
Award-winning Weld County Fair entries in the special 150th Anniversary classes will be part of a silent auction to benefit various non-profit organizations throughout Weld County, and anniversary merchandise, including Polo shirts, reusable bags and lapel pins, will be available for purchase at the event.
Event attendees will also be able to see the traveling road show panels as well as read highlights from the anniversary web site.
The paramedic color guard will present and retire the flags during the special
town-recognition ceremony which will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the commissioner’s board room.

The year was 1861. Abraham Lincoln was the newly elected President of the United States of America – a country on the verge of civil war. James “Wild Bill” Hickok joined the Pony Express – a company that proclaimed it could get a letter from New York to San Francisco in just 10 days. And in the West, a new county was formed in what was once the Territories of Nebraska and Kansas. Weld County, named after the first Secretary of Colorado Territory, has been growing ever since.
